Environmental Impact Assessment

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is the process for ensuring that the potential environmental effects of a development proposal, good or bad, are fully considered together with any economic or social benefits, before a planning application is determined.

In particular, many large scale and major development proposals that give rise to the potential for environmental effects are subject to EIA in accordance with the European Union EIA Directive and require an Environmental Statement to be submitted as a component part of a planning application submission.

Our capabilities and expertise within the EIA process include early engagement with the Planning Authority and statutory consultees to confirm if EIA is applicable and to determine the scope and detail of the issues to be assessed and addressed in the Environmental Statement.

We have extensive experience of the procedural and technical aspects of the EIA process, including the co-ordination and management of specialist consultant teams who are briefed on a consistent basis to ensure the carrying out of a robust EIA that will be supported by a strong evidence base. The content of all specialist inputs to the EIA are carefully reviewed and scrutinised to ensure consistency across all recommendations and within the final submitted documentation.
